Training and Development

Care in Hand believes training is an invaluable tool not only for our staff’s development, but for the service we offer as a whole. We understand that training can help build a common understanding of our aims and values, and show our operation team’s commitment to all our employees.

We are very passionate about the development of all members of our team and offer opportunities for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to all.

Carer Training Process

Our carer training process aims to develop an employee's career to give them the opportunity to increase their responsibilities and contribute to the company with ideas about new ways of working to continually ensure we offer the best level of care. Our training and development policy follows three easy steps:

Step 1 - Pre-employment

Every member of staff at Care in Hand goes through a thorough recruitment process. All employees are Disclosure Barring Service (DBS: Enhanced) checked before starting work with us. We ensure that all references are reviewed and all employment histories are looked into in depth.

Step 2 - Our 7 day induction programme

If successful at step 1, Care in Hand then provides each trainee with a comprehensive induction programme. Our 7 day induction is completed before you meet any of our service users. Our induction provides you with the knowledge required to work with an enablement approach to care delivery. We aim to give you the correct knowledge to assist you to support clients to achieve the outcomes outlined within their care delivery plans.

During your induction you can expect to cover the following topics:

  • Your role within the Company and Human Resources Induction
  • Communication
  • Principles and Duty of Care
  • Enablement Training
  • Health & Safety
  • COSHH
  • Fire Safety
  • Food Hygiene
  • Protection of Vulnerable Adults & Children
  • Infection Control
  • Basic First Aid
  • Medication Awareness
  • All Wales Moving and Handling Local Government Training 2009
  • An Introduction to Dementia Care Level 1
  • Practiced Based Learning Day – Gain care skills using our Geri Mannequin to have the competence to provide personal care.

Our induction programme covers the requirements of the Care Council for Wales Social Care Induction Framework.

Step 3 – 3rd Month Review which includes a Skills, Knowledge and Assessment of Practice

After the seven day induction, all employees receive a 3 month probation period, where some time is spent working with your allocated mentor.  During this time, each trainee must complete the 12 week skills, knowledge and practical based competency assessment programme. This period ensures that a high quality of care will be provided to our clients by care workers who have undergone an extensive training and assessment programme in both theoretical and practical aspects of caring duties.
