Acquired Brain Injury

An acquired brain injury can happen unexpectedly and suddenly. The potential range of consequences is huge and can vary enormously from individual to individual depending on the nature and severity of the injury. There can be obvious physical consequences, such as paralysis, weakness or difficulties with coordination and there may also be less visible psychological problems.

The turmoil, upheaval and distress experienced by an individual will be shared by their family and friends. In particular, concern over on-going care and support can be a major source of worry and stress.

Care in Hand has a positive and holistic approach to supporting someone who has an acquired brain injury. We focus on an individual’s strengths and achievements and as a registered nursing and care provider we are able to offer unified and comprehensive support. This support is specifically tailored to meet the needs of each individual. As these needs change, our nursing and caring skills and knowledge enable us to respond quickly and flexibility to ensure that our support remains effective and appropriate.

These are the principles that underpin our work:

  • Our carers and healthcare assistants are trained to help and give medical support.
  • Assisting with mobility – our support workers are on hand to assist and reassure when reduced mobility is an issue.
  • We take a holistic approach to our work, looking at every customer’s individual needs through a people-focused perspective.
  • We look to match the support worker and the individual to ensure that their relationship is comfortable and supportive. We recognise the importance of your established routine and choices and we will always work within your preferences.
  • Good communication is central to our services. On a day to day basis we will always listen to your concerns and through regular reviews we will ensure that the support you are receiving matches your needs. This open communication also enables us to offer uplifting support to the families and friends in what can be difficult and upsetting times
